An electrically controlled solenoid brake is called a solenoid. An electrical solenoid activates and deactivates the brake. When the brake is unpowered, a spring engages the brake, and when it is powered, a solenoid releases it. The load on a cargo winch is managed with these in conjunction with a mechanical brake.
